Here is a great overview of church history in an audio-visual format with some interactive elements (quizzes and links).
As the site explains:
“This course is designed to give you a good quick seminary-level grasp of church history in less than an hour.”
The course was created by the developers at HeLives.com. The course is taught by Dr. John Hannah, Distinguished Professor of Historical Theology and Professor of Theological Studies at Dallas Theological Seminary (since 1972).
The church history course is broken into 8 units:
- Unit 1: Why Study This?
- 2 minutes 56 seconds
- Unit 2: Introduction
- 2 minutes 37 seconds
- Unit 3: Early Church
- 5 minutes 39 seconds
- Unit 4: Medieval Church
- 3 minutes 56 seconds
- Unit 5: Early Modern Period
- 4 minutes 01 second
- Unit 6: Late Modern Period 1
- 2 minutes 53 seconds
- Unit 7: Late Modern Period 2
- 3 minutes 18 seconds
- Unit 8: Postmodern Period
- 4 minutes 13 seconds
There is a timeline near the bottom of the video stage (see image above) that you use to navigate between units. Simply click a unit on the timeline when you are ready to view it.
The entire course takes about 30 minutes to view — a little longer if you take the optional quizzes at the end of each unit.
We can learn much from the saints that have gone before us. This is a great way to introduce church history to anyone unfamiliar with the topic.
What do you think of the audio-visual format used by the developers at HeLives.com? Does it appeal to you?
