Noah’s Ark Educational Theme Park

Ark Encounter

Ark Encounter will open its doors in the spring of 2014 in Kentucky (near Cincinnati, Ohio). What is Ark Encounter? Here’s a quote from the park’s website that explains this exciting venture:

The Ark Encounter is a one-of-a-kind historically themed attraction. In an entertaining, educational, and immersive way, it presents a number of historical events centered on a full-size, all-wood Ark, which should become the largest timber-frame structure in the USA.

Plans for the attraction include a Walled City, the Tower of Babel, a first-century Middle Eastern village, a journey in history from Abraham to the parting of the Red Sea, a walk-through aviary, a large petting zoo, and so on.

It is designed to be family oriented, historically authentic, and environmentally friendly.

We also plan for the Ark Encounter to include daily live mammal and bird shows, an extensive interactive children’s area, live entertainment, and many themed restaurants, creative food outposts, and shopping.

Ark Encounter is brought to us by the same organization behind the massive Creation Museum, also located outside of Cincinnati, Ohio. That would be the good folks at Answers in Genesis.

Why build a life-sized replica of Noah’s Ark? The park’s interesting and interactive website includes a great deal of information on this and other questions. I think it can be boiled down to the following:

By recreating the ark today, it would be a sign to the world that:

  1. God’s Word is true and must be heeded – Romans 3:4: “let God be true but every man a liar.”
  2. All have sinned and suffer the penalty of death – Romans 5:12: “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned.”
  3. There is a coming final judgment by fire, just as there was past judgment by a Flood –Matthew 24:37: “But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.”
  4. Noah’s Ark and the global Flood really happened in history, as the New Testament confirms—Luke 17:27: “They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.”
  5. God has provided an Ark of salvation for all people (as He did for Noah and his family)—the Lord Jesus — John 10:9: “I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.”

The project developers want us to understand that Ark Encounter is not necessarily an amusement park, per se:

The Ark Encounter will be an immersive, historically themed experience for the whole family focused on having fun while learning about history. It is not an amusement park. It will feature a number of daily live performances, as well as live special events. It will also include “edu-tainment” aspects–educational and entertaining experiences within each attraction.

There are a number of ways to get more information about Ark Encounter and to keep up with new developments as they occur:

I am eagerly looking forward to visiting this attraction! Is Ark Encounter something you would be interested in checking out?
