OliveTree Desktop Software

OliveTree is known for it’s top-notch mobile Bible study software, which is available for numerous platforms. However, OliveTree announced that it plans to make the leap to desktop software in the next few months, which will synchronize with its mobile counterparts. A teaser video can be seen here.

This is good news for anyone who uses OliveTree apps on their mobile device but is forced to use a separate Bible study software program on their desktop or laptop computer. OliveTree’s policy regarding purchased resources allows you to use a product on “up to five (5) supported devices that you own or control.” Although there are relatively few details on the upcoming desktop products, it stands to reason that this policy will also carry over, so that any resources you have previously purchased for your mobile devices will be automatically available on your Macs and PCs as well. We will know for sure in the near future.

For anyone not familiar with OliveTree Bible study software, the application itself is free, and there are some free resources (Bibles, commentaries, dictionaries, etc) that you can download into the app. Additional resources can be purchased. One can reasonably assume that the desktop counterpart will also be free, but only time will tell.

While OliveTree enjoys leader-of-the-pack status on mobile platforms, it will be interesting to see if they can compete with existing desktop giants like Logos and Accordance (and others). Each has something to offer, and, as the old adage says, competition is good for the consumer.

What do you think? Do you plan to give OliveTree’s desktop software a try?
