2012 Resolution: Redeem the Time

Redeem the Time

I’m not a big practitioner of new years’ resolutions, but I do have one for 2012. I want to redeem my time (Eph 5:16). I want to make the most of every opportunity for God’s kingdom purposes.

I can so easily fill up my time with mundane things – not necessarily bad things, just … things. And then, afterward, I lament the valuable time that was lost that could have been spent on eternal things, things that matter. Can anyone relate?

I know that God has prepared good works for me to do in this life (Eph 2:10), which makes me mindful that I need to be adequate, equipped (2 Tim 3:16-17). I need to be spending ever more time immersed in God’s word, renewing my mind and being transformed (Rom 12:2), so that I will know what God’s perfect will is, so that I can walk in those good works that He ordained for me.

I don’t know about you, but it seems to me that current events are lining up with Scripture in such a way that Jesus’ return and the end times events are surely close at hand. All the more reason to redeem the time while there is still time, so we can be prepared for His return and stand before Him without shame (1 John 2:28).
